This includes a film and photography studio shooting innovative projects for big independent creatives, a luxury online store selling lines from the world's most exciting fashion designers, and a bustling editorial department that covers the latest collections from fashion weeks in real time, all under the watchful eye of legendary fashion image-maker Nick Knight. For the last 2 months I've been interning there. No biggie.

What did I do during the internship?

My duties included assisting on film and photo shoots, producing content for Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, writing blog posts for the website, compiling research packs for panel discussions, contributing ideas for projects, curating social content and catwalk imagery from major fashion shows, transcribing interviews and updating editorial databases.

How did I get the internship?

Short answer- I simply saw the internship advertised on SHOWstudio’s website, sent a CV and cover letter via email, and interviewed for the role via Skype! Long answer - to stand out amongst dozens of candidates all going for the same role in situations like this, you must be uber prepared. Whether you’re a student, a graduate, or have never set foot in a university, it doesn’t matter! What matters is real-life, hands-on experience, excellent organisation and time management, confidence and great people skills, and most importantly RESEARCH THE BRAND! I can not emphasise this point enough; I am humiliated looking back to when I was a teenager sending internship applications starting with ‘Dear Sir or Madam’  or ‘Who it May Concern’. Anyway, there were several interns in the various different departments, all a huge range of ages and backgrounds, and even 16-18 year olds from sixth form colleges on shorter term work experience placements, so never be put off by thinking you won’t ‘fit in’, just go for it!

What were the high points and low points?

Overall I would totally recommend SHOWstudio as an employer for anyone looking for a fashion internship. It was a welcoming and friendly environment, which safe to say is not always a given in this industry!  Of course, there are two sides of the debate when it comes to long term unpaid internships (which I have explored in my article for Fashion Fix Daily 'Internships: The Good, the Bad and The Ugly'), but in my opinion, you get out what you put in. I gave it my all despite the financial sacrifices, and now I have an invaluable addition to my CV, contacts that I could not have made otherwise, and a much clearer idea of what I'd like to do after graduation.
