Edinburgh Castle Tweed: Style It Your Way
Practical and stylish, the new Edinburgh Castle tweed is proudly woven by Knockando Woolmill, a heritage mill producing traditional Scottish textiles located in the Spey Valley, Scotland since 1784. The tweed itself features a contemporary check with colours inspired by the landscape and history of Edinburgh, from the cool grey of the Old Town's cobbles to the rich blue of the Firth of Forth.
This wearable weave comes in a scarf, throw, holdall, tote bag and wallet, but I opted for the small backpack, as I know I will use this every day at university or work (it fits several notebooks and a laptop in!) and even for cycling around town. It has a couple of useful, generously sized zip pockets as well as a drawstring and a buckle to secure. I love the leather upper, which contrasts nicely with the subtle tweed design, and will match with almost anything I wear, which is usually black, grey and blue.
The ageless collection, brought together by the team at Historic Environment Scotland, highlights Scotland’s rich heritage, showcasing the versatility and timelessness of the capital city itself.
The new range of accessories, which aims to boost the tweed's fashion credentials, has been a hit with visitors to Edinburgh Castle from around the globe, but it's also great for residents like me too, as the design is far from cheesy 'tartan tat'. Not only is this bag, and the other items from the capsule, available to buy at the castle gift shop itself, but online too (shipping internationally!) at shop.historic-scotland.gov.uk
