Embracing a Healthy Body
I have been roughly the same weight now, a healthy BMI of 20, for about a year now. This is something that at one point was inconceivable, as anorexia and bulimia destroyed my body and my mind over and over again, I was in a constant state of flux throughout my teenage years.
To love my body felt unrealistic, unachievable and downright impossible. To accept my body, well, that seemed pretty out of reach too, but I have discovered that at least some of the time, I can accept myself for what I look like, broken nose, big thighs, chubby cheeks, DD boobs and all. And guess what, there are even those moments when I think, yeah, I'm cool with who I have become, I'm going to stay this way. Nobody can dim my shine, as Tyra Banks would say. I am fierce. Today, as I write this blog post, I accept my newly healthy body, and I celebrated it with some (read: many) pictures down by Newhaven Harbour. If you take one thing from this blog post, please remember that when you hate your body, its not your body that needs to be changed, its your mind. I am slowly beginning to realise that actually, no matter what my dress size or how defined my abdominal muscles are or whether or not I have the dreaded thigh gap, people like me for me, so maybe I should too.
Your body is simply a vessel, a shell, a machine for your soul and your beautiful brain, and more importantly, its the only one you've got.
