Edinburgh Boutique Focus: Hannah Zakari
I had my eye out for something geometric, so this fun and contemporary pendant necklace by Wolf and Moon made with handpainted wood and brass caught my eye immediately. The design is inspired by modern abstract art and architecture, intended to be both sophisticated and playful - perfect for daytime and evening wear. Wolf & Moon is a jewellery line by British artist and designer Hannah Davis. Hannah graduated from Goldsmiths College, London with a BA in Fine Art in 2012. Each piece in her collection is handmade in her Hackney studio. This 'Talisman Necklace in Powder Pink' is a steal at just £45, which you can bag for yourself here.
Hannah Zakari is up there with my favourite independent boutiques based in Edinburgh, specialising in handmade items and emerging indie designers. It was founded and is owned by Rachael Griffiths in 2004, and it's selection ranges from acrylic necklaces to cute stud earrings and statement jewellery, from affordable art prints to greetings cards and notebooks, enamel pins, embroidered patches, plus the odd cult designer t-shirt and cute temporary tattoos. Rachels likes to work in close collaboration with our designers to create products and a delightful shopping experience with details like hand-stamped packaging, artist window displays and her very own Hannah Zakari Zine-which is a brilliant little read!
By the way, the 'Hannah' in Hannah Zakari is not actually a real person! Rachel wanted her business to reflect her love of Japan and it's culture. Hannah Zakari comes from the Japanese ?? ? [hanazakari], which translates as 'blossoming' or 'blooming'. How lovely!
As well as the wonderful website, the bricks-and-mortar HZ boutique opened in July 2010, and has been a key stalwart of Edinburgh's Old Town ever since! You can find the shop at 43 Candlemaker Row, Edinburgh, EH1 2QB.
Finally, here are the outfit details from this shoot!
