Rachel McMillan Photoshoot at BaaD Glasgow

Today I'm sharing a few snaps from a recent photoshoot at BAAD (Barras Art And Design) for award-winning Glasgow fashion designer Rachel McMillan, featuring photographer Magdalena M Kaminska, make-up artist Beth King, and models Louise Blair, Ziggy, and me!

Rachel McMillan is one of my absolute favourite Scottish fashion designers, since a year or two ago when I discovered her work as part of the inaugural Fashion Foundry project alongside Birds of Prayers and Barbra Kolasinski, who she now shares a studio with at BAAD.

Rachel's impressive awards roster includes...

  • Best Sustainable Business The Herald Fashion Awards

  • Fashion Foundry Designer 2016

  • Freelance of the Year Finalist, IPSE London Awards

  • Young Designer of The Year Finalist, Scottish Fashion Awards

  • Fashion Entrepreneur Finalist, Great British Entrepreneur Awards

...and her work has been featured in Vogue Italia, showcased at Off Schedule London Fashion Week, and is now proudly stocked at House of Fraser in Glasgow!

Rachel's designs focus on simple, contemporary luxury, and best of all, her brand operates in an ethical and sustainable way. From manufacturing everything either in-house in Scotland or at an ethical Fair Wear Factory in India to using organic cotton and eco-friendly bamboo fabric, this modern, stylish womenswear line makes sustainable fashion more appealing than ever.

I love the minimal, monochrome looks in this collection, like the black and white digitally printed dress that Ziggy is wearing in the above picture, and the classic bamboo silk dress I'm wearing in the picture below. I'm especially fond of the long stretchy t-shirt dress with Rachel MacMillan's logo embroidered in metallic thread across the chest that Louise is wearing in the second image, and I actually have one of these myself at home which I wear all the time; it's so versatile.

Overall, this awesome Scottish fashion brand is one I'd recommend to anyone looking for an affordable ethical brand that specialises in high quality, high-end looking garments that are made to last and work hard in your wardrobe rather than following fads.
