Mental Health Meets Music and Film: Groundbreaking New Campaign

My better half, talented musician Jack Hinks, is creating a beautiful new piece of art with an even more beautiful meaning behind it; a film for his song about the indescribable struggle of mental illness, inspired by my personal battle with recovery from disordered mental health. And in order to push the project to its true potential, and support a cause close to my heart, Beat, we desperately need your help.

"I want to create a piece of film that will match and further the message in my song. Mental disorders affect so many, and no one should feel they have to hide or fight alone. Often these struggles are not physical or can be easily overlooked, so we want to create something that can be seen, and inspire people to share their stories and open a dialogue for those wanting to talk." - Jack Hinks

The song, Fabric, is about the daily struggle facing those who suffer from mental disorders, and the film will be an open-to-interpretation take on the song. This is a multidisciplinary project using the mediums of dance, physical theatre, film, and of course music, to show how those who suffer from mental health problems have to balance with its burdens on a daily basis. With your help, this will become capable of opening a dialogue for people who battle with their mental health.

This film has been a long time in dreams, preparations, writing, and hard work from a lot of creatives and truly incredible people. Jack is working alongside names such as cinematographer Perry Jonsson, Edinburgh-based 'Double Take Productions' fresh from their Advent Calendar projection on the General Register House, and Siam Colvine, an experienced filmmaker and creative director. Everyone involved with this project brings another layer of insight and experience, particularly to a subject that is often synonymous with the creative industry. What they create will be real and tangible, and I hope it will resonate with as many people as possible.
