Retro Street Style: Polka Dots and All-Stars

On Sunday I met up with Alice Cruickshank, gorgeous red-haired retro fashionista, who blogs over at Twenty Something City. We decided to go on a stroll around the hidden graffiti-laden treasures of Edinburgh and team up to take some street-style shots for our respective blogs. The theme was retro, with Alice in her 70's flared jumpsuit and me in my 90's polka-dot jumpsuit! I teamed mine (from Snooper's Paradise in Brighton) with a Monki oversized denim jacket (similar here),  classic vintage Converse hi-tops, some silver hoop earrings and Forever 21 sunglasses.

I wouldn't always opt for such a bold print, but after trying this bad boy on for size, it fit like a dream and made me feel like a late eighties party girl. I love it's simple, classic cut, insanely comfy loose-fit trousers, and pretty zip detailing on the back with a big black ribbon round the waist. It is perfect for this awkward time of year where it's not quite summer yet, and saves me from baring those painfully pale pins! I realised while writing this post that I own about 10 playsuits and jumpsuits...I think its becoming an obsession!I normally dress it up, for work or a night out, with black heeled ankle boots, a cropped leather jacket and a wee clutch bag, but for a lazy weekend, I think that casual was the way to go! And nothing screams 'laid back' louder than chuck taylors. I always forget I have these and usually prefer the low-rise style, but they are genuinely the comfiest shoes I own! SO the moral of the story is, even if you think you can't rock that statement retro piece, you totally can, and style it in your very own way.
