Edinburgh and Glasgow Summer Pop-Up Shops
August is an absolutely CRAZY month in Edinburgh, with more festivals then you can count, and such a huge choice of events and activities that its almost impossible to choose. This year is my first year not flying for various comedy shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and it feels so good to not be stuck on the Royal Mile all day! So far I've only been to a couple of shows, the best by far were the fantastic Loud Poets (see details here!), but my highlight of the month so far is discovering all the wonderful little pop-up shops, such as Don't Look Lingerie, Urban Reivers, Popping Up in Stockbridge and the Craft Scotland Summer Show. Whats more, venturing up to Glasgow, at the end of this month cult Scottish fashion brand Isolated Heroes is showcasing their new collection using a pop-up blogger event and mini-shop. Read on to find out more about these great local initiatives!
Isolated Heroes, the brand synonymous with sequins, sass and style icons like Miley Cyrus are holding an exclusive viewing and public pop-up this month in Glasgow, which will bring the bright lights of Las Vegas to Scottish fashionistas.
The event, showcasing the new collection Nevada, will be serving Glam Rock meets Casino Chic with leopard print, glitter and rhinestones galore.
The pop-up shop will be open to the public from Saturday 27th to Sunday 28th (10am to 6pm). Owner and Queen of sequins herself, Samantha Paton, had this to say about the pop up:
"As an award winning Scottish brand it's really important for us to have our first pop up shop right here and where better than our favourite city of Glasgow. IsolatedHeroes has a strong customer base here and we cannot wait to meet all them in person”
Sassy queens in attendance to the pop-up can also expect Americana themed cupcakes from GG Bakes, and have the chance to get up-close- and-personal with these hand beaded and Scottish made garments, so get down early to avoid disappointment (and sequin withdrawal)!
The best part of pop-up shops is that because they are limited for time, they tend to cram in lots of exciting stuff so customers can get a taste for what the brand is all about. For example, the Craft Scotland #EdSummerShow (At White Stuff on George Street) has regular 'Meet the Maker' talks and demos for the public, and Urban Reivers (also on George Street) have testings and tastings for skincare, chocolate, coffee, perfume and even gin!
By far my favourite out of these lovely lot has to be Don't Look Lingerie, a mini boutique at White Space on the Southside, stocking beautiful handmade lingerie from various UK designers.
Check out the brand on Instagram and be prepared to fall in love with the undies! Some fellow bloggers and I attended their launch event last week and adored all the pretty bras, kimonos, embroidered knickers and sweet little pyjama sets. Pop in to the pop-up store ASAP, as sadly, its only here until the 18th of August!
Finally, we have Popping Up in Stockbridge, a shop on Raeburn Place selling homeware and gifts.
The store gives small independent makers, artists, upcyclers and more the chance to showcase their work to a mass market, much the same as our ethos at The Scottish Design Exchange
