Style with Soul at Bohemia
Edinburgh fashion fans, have you ever been to Bohemia? If not, why not? Bohemia is a gorgeous little bohemian (as the name would suggest) boutique in Marchmont with a huge selection of clothing, accessories, jewellery, homeware, kidswear and gifts. They have a strong ethos that I really connect with, ensuring the products they sell are ethically made and traded, and their own brand range is 100% handmade by skilled artisan communities from around the world.
This was a really great blogger event last week, actually my first ever time in the shop despite being a long-time instagram fan, with incredble donuts from The Bearded Baker (check out these Lotus Biscoff ones!), a nice activity of block printing our own tote bags using the new Bohemia eye print (what do you think- black or pink?), networking with like-minded ethical fashion folk and browsing the shelves of beautiful products. I found myself immediately in the womenswear section where the team have carefully curated a range of fashion brands including Vera Moda to display a capsule colleciton of relaxed, stylish clothing, and in the stationary section, where I bought a gorgeous week planner thingy, because I have no self-cntrol when it comes to stationary.
Bohemia was founded in 2006 by Jenny Lockton, and is the culmination of years of experience working with artists and craftspeople around the world. Bohemia was established to build relationships with artisan producers and through these collaborations help to support meaningful employment and ensure the survival of awe-inspiring traditional crafts. A small band of creatives, they design unique collections of fashion and home accessories and work in ethical partnership with artisans in Morocco, India and Turkey to produce contemporary handcrafted goods with an authentic soul.
The best part of Bohemia is of course their own brand range. From pom pom garlands to cosy rugs, bohemian jewellery to bags and pouches, everything has a cool, modern vibe with an ethnic twist. My personal favourites are the new cactus print make up bags with the pom-pom zippers, so adorable and perfect for travelling. But as well as this lovely Bohemia collection, the store also stocks a great selection of other brands, including Vero Moda, True Grace, Jellycat, La Bruket, Poconido, Buddy + Bear, Meri Meri, Lapin & Me, Bob & Blossom, Petra Boase, & Ichi.
As well as a beautiful boutique, Bohemia serves as a venue for regular craft classes and workshops. Past activities, in collaboration with local craftspeople and design companies, have included Spoon carving, Face masks and Wreath making. Coming up in the near future are: Modern Calligraphy, Basics of Macrame, Butter Knife Carving, Weaving and DIY skincare. Keep up to date with events on the Bohemia Facebook Page.
