Edinburgh Charity Fashion Show #ECFS
Last night was the annual Edinburgh Charity Fashion Show held at the legendary venue National Museum of Scotland to celebrate the most exciting new fashion design talent and support children's mental health charity Place2Be. Read on to find out all about ECFS 2017.
The theme of this year's show was 'The Future of Fashion', and this was brought to life by the innovative designs sweeping down the unconventional catwalk, extending the scope of the creative arts within Edinburgh, alongside punchy electronic, rock and pop tracks.
The show had a truly modern, dynamic energy, showcasing a huge range of new fashion designers and models. Much of the avant garde clothing incorporated digital and 3D designs, showing a new kind of 'wearable art', all carefully created with an excellent eye for structure, form and texture.
The event being held at The National Museum of Scotland really supported this contemporary ideas, with stunning architecture and lighting, surrounded by exhibitions celebrating past, present and future of innovative design and engineering. Guests were welcomed with live music, drinks and delicious canapés in the fascinating auditorium, surrounded by Edinburgh's most fashionable students along with hundreds of enthusiastic volunteers, committee members and representaives.
The charity being supported by ECFS this year is Place2Be, with proceeds from tickets, raffles and auctions going to this deserving cause, which also fits with the futuristic theme by protecting the future of disadvantaged children. Place2Be provides counselling ins schools across the UK to transform the lives of young people in difficult home situations in order to prevent the development of future mental health and behavioural problems. The key to solving this nation's mental health crisis is certainly early intervention. Find out more:
The show also featured clothing from Topshop, as this year's main project sponsor, in addition to luxury Scottish knitwear house Pringle of Scotland. Overall there was a really good mixture of styles. It was a truly impressive spectacle with something to hold everyone's interest, and really stood out in my mind compared with other student run fashion shows!
Here's a video of ECFS last year, and I'll be sure to share this year's video when its released.
